Solgate is a new research-driven biopharmaceutical startup that develops drugs targeting solute carrier (SLC) proteins, the largest family of membrane transporters. By modulating the function of the “gates” to cellular metabolism, Solgate aims to address unmet medical needs in neurological diseases, in metabolic disorders and in cancer. Solgate is located in the newly established IST Park, a space housing a growing community of technology startups and biotech companies, adjacent to IST Austria in Klosterneuburg, near Vienna.
Solgate is seeking to hire a motivated and creative Discovery Scientist in high-throughput screening (postdoc level) to join our fast-growing interdisciplinary research team. Together, we are developing novel small molecule therapeutics that modulate the functions of membrane transporters. We have a high-performance, and result-oriented culture, looking for colleagues eager to learn. The ideal candidate will bring relevant experience, creativity, entrepreneurial drive, and a passion for advancing our mission.
Role and Responsibilities
Employ innovative problem-solving skills utilizing cutting edge screening methodologies to identify drug targets and hit compounds
Develop, optimize and execute medium-high throughput screens, including phenotypic screens, biophysical screens and cell-based screens
Design quantitative experiments with rigorous attention to parameters to support robust scientific conclusions
Provide leadership in the laboratory through scientific/technical mentoring
Engage in multidisciplinary research projects and closely collaborate with Solgate team members to progress strategic goals
Implement novel methods, assays and applications to advance drug discovery efforts for membrane transporters.
Perform mechanism-of-action studies using cellular biology, genetic, biophysical and molecular biology approaches
Coordinate and implement the appropriate infrastructure to enable the screening platform, including experimental and analytical needs
Organize, summarize and deliver data, in written and oral presentations
Contribute to documentation, laboratory infrastructure management, and managerial leadership to CROs
To accomplish the responsibilities of this role, the candidate must demonstrate excellent interpersonal, organization and communication skills in addition to rigorous scientific thinking.

4+ years of academic/industry experience in more than one HTS screening methodology (such as cell-based reporters, FRET, luminescence, MST, FP, or other novel readout technologies)
Experience in one of the following is valued: automation & liquid handling, advanced imaging technologies (e.g. high content, cell painting), data analysis (R, Python, or similar)
Proactive, efficient team player who is able to work both independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team
Experience in project leadership demonstrated by creative problem solving and excellent planning and analytical skills
Strong background in a relevant therapeutic area and the mechanisms of disease is desirable
