The establishment of continuous biomanufacturing is highly desired by industry
as space-time yields can be improved at stable product quality.
Unfortunately, microbial hosts suffer from instable productivity in common
continuous cultivations, due to yet not understood reasons.
In the FFG project „BISY Pichia“ the goal is to develop a stable continuous
bioprocess using the host Pichia pastoris with bi-directional promotor systems.
P. pastoris is a frequently used host in multiple biotechnological applications, as
cheap cultivations can be conducted at feasible growth rates and glycosylated
protein secretion into the supernatant is possible at high specific productivities.
Cascaded continuous cultivation has shown to be superior to common
continuous cultivation systems. Hence, bi-directional promotor systems which
can separate production of helper proteins and target protein, are ideal for
cascaded continuous cultivation.
You will focus your research on: 1) characterization of host physiology in
different cultivation modes, 2) data science and modeling, 3) purification
of target products and 4) analytics.
Master degree in either biotechnology, chemical engineering, bioprocess technology, or similar.
Familiar with common analytical methods in biotechnology, experience in fermentation and data
science. Moreover, you are able to work independently as well as in a team. The ability to meet
timelines as well as good written and verbal communication in English are part of your qualifications.

The position is available from 04. January 2021 and is scheduled for 3 years.
